Roots and Shoots: The green world awakens. A workshop with Herbalist Jessie Martelhof
A herbal remedy-making and foraging workshop in East Sussex with seasonal reflections for early spring (Imbolc) with forager and qualified Herbalist Jessie Martelhof.
Late winter and early spring is an exciting time of year when the days start to lengthen and we begin to see the first stirrings of plant life in the natural world.
Learn about how we can harness some of the early growth of wild plants and trees at this time of year and make herbal remedies from them. You will also be able to try some wild herbal teas made from foraged plants from this time of year.
After a winter of spending more time indoors, this workshop is a lovely opportunity to step back out into the natural world again and see what is stirring. It is more than you think! Early spring is the time of ‘Imbolc’ in the ancient celtic seasonal calendar which has come to be associated with the setting of intentions and considering what metaphorical seeds we would like plant and nurture for ourselves for the coming year. Jessie will offer the group the opportunity to reflect on this and set some intentions if they wish during the workshop.
There will be a fire and plentiful hot drinks throughout the herbal remedy-making and foraging workshop to keep everyone comfortable and warm.

Aims for this herbal remedy-making, foraging and reflections workshop:
- Learn how to identify wild, woodland plants that can be foraged in the season.
- Discussion about how foraged plants can be used medicinally.
- A chance to reflect on the season of Imbolc and connect with nature.
Who facilitates this workshop?
Jessie Martelhof has a First Class BSc Honours degree in Herbal Medicine from Lincoln University and is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.
