Unit 1: Overview

Unit 1 Overview

Welcome to the Practical Skills Unit. As a Forest School Practitioner you will spend your time supporting children’s interests and learning, which often involve a host of practical experiences from tool use,  art & crafts, cooking, keeping warm with a fire, using ropes to climb and make swings – really a life time of endless fun outdoors.

All we expect when you arrive at the Training is for you to have printed your UNIT 1 Workbook!

This Unit 1 workbook is yours to keep a detailed record of key skills. You can add photos, drawings, key information – this will be checked by your tutor, but most importantly it becomes a future resource for you.  During the training, keep notes and add this later to your workbook. Be as detailed as possible, to remember the key points that need to be taken to keep the activities safe, appropriately challenging and fun.

FREQUENTLY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS – this is a new addition and is ESSENTIAL reading.  It brings together all the learning over the years from our standardisation and verification process.  Please refer to this while working on all your handbooks!

It will really help your learning experience if you read through the ITC Learning Outcomes: Practical Skills which correspond with Unit 1 Workbook (see Supporting documents),  to give you a quick glance at the areas we cover through this Unit.
